2010 Census Data estimate for the US growth is 9.7%. Growth rate for the State of New York is estimated at 2.1%. Most of the counties in Upstate grew slower than the state average of 2.1% and all of the counties grew much slower than the national average. Buffalo has decreased by 10.7% in ten years and has lost 50% of its population since 1950.Rochester has decreased by 4.2% and Syracuse by 1.5%.
Go to www.census.gov and look up New York 2010 Census Results. You should find a colored map that points out the grim reminder that our lack of economic growth continues to create a long term out migration.
Here is a great story to a New York Times Article: A Company Grows, and Builds a Plant Back in the U.S.A. by Adriana Gardella.

We are starting to forecast new jobs that, we believe, will be possible within the next few years. The jobs will be forecast by company and county. In most cases, but not all, CBBIC will have a part to play in helping these companies become successful. In each case the companies are in an initial start-up and may be seeking GAP financing or partners that have shared interests. These companies have committed to hiring, the qualified unemployed, the under employed, the veteran and the permanent local citizens of Upstate NY. In some cases some companies will have employees in several or many counties depending upon how the final role out of their products is decided.
